XOnano Smartfoam Detects Concussions with Precision

XOnano Smartfoam Detects Concussions with Precision
Sep-24-17
The sensor-laden XOnano smartfoam inserts can detect concussions and determine their severity in real time.

As more reports are released about concussions in the NFL, coaches and players are looking for ways to detect the injury as soon as possible.

The XOnano insert, from the team at Brigham Young University, fits inside the player’s helmet and shoulder pads, where it can determine the intensity of an impact via electrical signals. Rather than relying simply on acceleration data, the XOnano foam will also determine impact energy and velocity, offering a clearer image of the impact severity and location. That data is sent to a paired device, allowing coaches to view the information in real time.
