Enhancement of Microbial Colonization of the Gastrointestinal Tract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition not only transporting probiotic microorganism to the large bowel but also containing a medium functioning to promote the growth of microorganisms when arriving at the large bowel. ; SOLUTION: The probiotic composition includes a carrier which will function to transport one or more probiotic microorganisms to the large bowel of animals or other regions of the gastrointestinal tract of an animal, the carrier comprising a modified or unmodified resistant starch or mixtures thereof and acting as a growth or maintenance medium for microorganisms in the large bowel or other regions of the gastrointestinal tract, and an origosacharide.
