Ultra-compact Aperture Controlled Depth from Defocus Range Sensor
The present application teaches an implementation of an ultra-compact range sensor based on aperture varying passive depth from defocus (DFD). An embodiment of the present application teaches a range sensor, which is a fast LCD matrix that allows the acquisition of a plurality of images with variable focal levels by changing the size of the aperture of a typical lens. The range sensor of the present application may be implemented in mobile devices or used in the construction of medical endoscopes able to perform depth recovery.
