Device for Quickly Generating a Torque on an Extended Dynamic Range with Low Inertia

The invention relates to a device for generating a torque on an output member (3) in response to a torque setpoint, comprising: a first driving member comprising at least one motor (1) with a first power, or small motor, with a shaft (2) onto which the output member is connected; a second driving member including at least one motor (11) having a second power higher than the first power, or large motor, with a shaft (12) rotatingly connected to the output member via viscous coupling means (4); driving means (50) programmed for powering the second driving member (11) in response to a torque setpoint (Mcons) so that the viscous coupling means provide a viscous torque (Mvisq) corresponding to the torque setpoint and, in parallel, to power the first driving member (1) so that it provides the additional torque between the torque setpoint and the viscous torque during the time necessary for the viscous torque to reach the value of torque setpoint.
