Geolocation of a Mobile Station of a Wireless Telephony Network

The invention relates to a method for locating a mobile station inside an area covered by a wireless telephony cellular network in which the mobile station operates. The method comprises using the mobile station to measure the received power (PLX) on at least seven different communication channels of the network (step 200) and then locating the station according to said measurements and relevant predetermined information of the correspondence between received power on said channels and location within the covered area (step 210). The predetermined information can comprise power levels (PLiMj) previously measured on said channels at different locations (Li) and stored in a database (BD1), in which case the station is located by comparing the measurements (PLX) with the contents of the database (BD1). The method also enables greater locating accuracy, even inside buildings.
