OFET-based sensor for detecting an analyte

An electrical sensor ("SensFET") is provided for qualitatively and/or quantitatively detecting an analyte of interest (molecules, ions etc.) in a gaseous or liquid medium, comprising an organic field-effect transistor device fabricated on a rigid or flexible substrate (61) having a source electrode (63), a drain electrode (64), an organic semiconducting layer serving as active channel (65), possibly one or more intermediate layers (66), a dielectric layer (67) and a gate electrode (68). The dielectric layer includes an organic material sensitive to a volatile or dissolved analyte in said medium, being adapted to change its electrical properties upon contact with said analyte so that the organic field-effect transistor generates an electrically detectable response.
