Method for the Completely Adaptive Calibration of a Prediction Error Encoder

The method comprises a first step of initialization; a second step of reception and accumulation of block-size data samples, in which for each value received, one is added to the histogram accumulator associated with this value; a third step of analysing the histogram and determining the encoding option; a fourth step of analysing the histogram and determining the encoding table; a fifth step of generating a header with the encoding table determined for the prediction error encoder; in which these steps are repeated if more samples have to be compressed. The method can be used for data compression, with the advantage that it is more rapid and more robust than the current data compression standard without CCSDS losses.
