Simulated Moving Bed Membrane Reactor, New Hybrid Separation Process and Uses Thereof

The present invention consists in a new technology, a simulated moving bed, absorbent membrane reactor. This technology comprises a reactor that integrates two different separation techniques: i) chromatography (simulated moving bed - SMB); ii) permeable membrane (namely, pervaporation and permeation, inter alia) into a single device, allowing a significant increase in the productivity of the unit and considerable reduction of downstream costs associated with the downstream separation units, for the same product purity and reactant conversion criteria. It is mainly useful in the chemical industry, particularly in the continuous production of oxygenated compounds, such as esters, acetals, ethers, carbonates, inter alia.
