Method of Dispersion Controlled X-ray Amplification in Laser System
A method for controlling amplification of coherent tunable radiation in the x-ray region of the electromagnetic spectrum through dispersion control has a step of generating pulsed laser radiation having a selected power, pulse width, wavelength, and leading edge velocity of propagation v?. The method includes steps of generating high atomic clusters having a selected size and density, and directing the pulsed laser radiation into the clusters, such that rapid atomic excitation is generated to have a population inversion from which a chosen wavelength of radiation is amplified in the x-ray region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The amplified radiation is guided in a self-trapped plasma channel region and has a group velocity vx(?) equal to a leading edge velocity of propagation v? and less than the speed of light.; The amplified radiation satisfies the Kramers-Kronig relations, and has the Ime(?) component thereof less than zero.
