Detection of Maternal Alcohol Exposure

The present invention provides methods, compositions, and systems for detecting in utero alcohol exposure by detecting expression level changes in certain biomarkers (e.g., in placental tissue). In certain embodiments, the biomarkers are selected from glucocorticoid receptor (GR), thyroid hormone receptor alpha (TR[alpha]), iodothyronine deiodinase III (Dio3) and G-protein [alpha]-subunit (Gs[alpha]).
