Method for metathesis decomposition of nitrile rubbers

Molecular weight degradation of a nitrile rubber comprises contacting the nitrile rubber with a metathesis catalyst containing a complex catalyst on the basis of 6th or 8th group metals and exhibiting at least one carbene group at the metal bonded ligands, and a metallic compound (I). Molecular weight degradation of a nitrile rubber comprises contacting the nitrile rubber with a metathesis catalyst containing a complex catalyst on basis of 6th or 8th group metals and exhibiting at least one carbene group at the metal bonded ligands, and a metallic compound of formula (M(OZ) m) (I). M : a transition metal of 4th-6th group elements; m : 4-6; and Z : aliphatic, cyclic, heterocyclic or aromatic residue with 1-32C, additionally exhibiting 1-15 heteroatoms.
