Device and Method for Detecting Falls

The present invention relates to a device and method for detecting falls. The problem of the present invention is to specify a device for detecting falls that ensures the reliable detection of falls at the earliest possible time, wherein the device according to the invention should be designed as cost-effectively as possible and wherein furthermore knowledge of the direction of gravitational acceleration is unnecessary. The device for detecting falls according to the invention comprises a three-dimensional acceleration sensor, which is designed to measure acceleration vectors formula (A) having three acceleration components formula (B) each of different spatial directions (x, y, z) at different times (t-1, t), wherein an evaluating unit that is designed to determine a spatial angle (f) between two acceleration vectors formula (A) of consecutive times (t-1, t) from the acceleration components formula (B) of different times (t-1, t) is provided, wherein the magnitude of the determined spatial angle (f) is compared with a limit to detect falls.
