Disinfection by Laser

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION.
The purpose of the invention is the treatment, disinfection and cleaning of all types of solids and fluids (liquids and gases), characterized by using pulsed and continuous wave laser emission generators between the limits of 0.38 to 1000 um, to which installs in its terminal head (output coupler) a device consisting of a divergent lens of zinc selenide (ZnSe), gallium arsenide (GaAs), fluorite (CaF2), germanium (Ge), quartz (SiO2) or other material similar, variable opening according to the surface to be treated. The device, for treatments in manholes, tanks or the like, may consist of a reflective metallic element of semi-spherical, conical or polygonal shape, located at the bottom of the cavity, which is fully coated with an equally reflective metal sheet of Aluminum, Copper, Stainless Steel or other similar material. It is in the field of application of Visible (VIS) and Infrared (IR) laser technology for disinfection of microorganisms and surface cleaning.

Radiation disinfection is a physical process defined by the transfer of electromagnetic energy from a laser generating source to the cellular genetic material of an organism located in a solid or fluid. The effects of this energy are to incapacitate the cell to reproduce and eliminate it by heating, due to the high sensitivity of microorganisms at high temperatures. The emitted radiation produces photo-physical reactions activating the dynamic processes in the molecule and the electronic activation in the atoms, causing a heating at different levels and changing to calorific energy.

The effectiveness of radiation is a direct relation of the amount of heat energy that is absorbed by microorganisms. This dose is the product of intensity and time of exposure to intensity. Most microorganisms require a very low level of energy to be destroyed.
