Brain Aging Assay
Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, have created a model of brain aging in cultured brain slices. These slices provide an in vitro model for the following: 1) the study of brain aging; 2) an assay for anti-brain aging drugs; and 3) therapeutics directed at the clinical condition referred to ceroid-lipofuscinosis. Unlike other methods, large numbers of slices can be run at the same time. This allows for several drugs or dosages to be tested in a single experiment, something that is not realistic in neurogerontological work on animals.
