The Arhgap18 Gene and Schizophrenia

Background: Correlation of brain images and genotypes for diagnostics of neuropsychiatric disorders and drug discovery Technology: The invention includes general methods for identifying markers that correlate with neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The methods include measuring a brain image under different functional conditions, assigning statistical difference, and correlation of this statistical difference with genotype difference. Brain images may be provided by MRI or PET scanning. The genotype information is acquired thorough hybridization of genomic microarrays. A variety of confirmatory analysis are designed to confirm a correlation.

Application: This is a high-throughput method to analyze correlations between various genotypes and brain function. It is useful for drug design to provide a profile of genomic alleles associated with a certain neurophysiological condition. This method may be used for prediction and diagnostic of such neurophysiological condition.
