Speed-Reduction Transmission

This new generation of speed-reduction transmissions, dubbed Speed-o-Cam and Slide-o-Cam, provide high accuracy and smooth operations. Based on the structure of indexing cam mechanisms, and functioning under pure rolling, these transmissions offer virtually zero backlash, zero power losses, and unlimited stiffness. The planar Speed-o-Cam and Slide-o-Cam transmissions couple parallel axes and are intended to replace spur (or helical) gear trains and rack-and-pinions, respectively. The spherical Speed-o-Cam transmissions couple intersecting axes at virtually any angle and are intended to replace bevel gears with straight and spiral teeth.
