Tensegrity structure for offshore use
In the aquaculture and fish farming industry, flexible and reliable net cage structures are vital. Large installations which are easily transported/moved without being compromised are a pain in the market. The repeating cell system of the tensegrity structure is of great flexibility and low weight, making it highly suitable for the fish farming industry. The relatively low-cost solution has attracted attention in the USA and Norway and stands out in an industry distinguished by high maintenance costs.
DESCRIPTION Tensegrity structures have been used in the USA for some 50 years, particularly in NASA’s awnings during space installations. The present invention relates to a design concept for flexible offshore structures. An extraordinary freedom to maintain control of shape, motion and vibration can be achieved by designing the system as a tensegrity structure (TS) and by introducing appropriate actuation, sensing and control. The invention also relates to interconnected units of flexible offshore structures.
UNIQUE SELLING POINTS
• “Unbreakable” structure
• Great flexibility
• Low maintenance costs
