Pin Printed Chemical Sensor Array for Simultaneous Multi-Analyte Detection
Chemical sensor arrays are low cost, compact, robust and versatile alternatives to large analytical tools and hence drive the need to rapidly fabricate reusable chemical sensor arrays for simultaneous multi-analyte quantification.
This invention includes the rapid fabrication of reusable chemical sensor arrays for simultaneous multi-analyte quantification by machining a novel array of minature spherical sensor sensor dots atop an LED. The array can be specifically tailored for any known cla ss of analytes. LED's provide an inexpensive sensor light source, low power consumption, and automated, customizable fabrication procedure. LEDs have a very long lifetime (>10,000 hrs) are physically robust (solid state) and can be computer contr led for unattended operation. Novel porous chemical xerogels with recognition chemicals (luminophores sequestered within) form the dots.
This invention integrates the sensor arrays described above with imaging equipment (to detect color changes) and computer algorithms for quick, efficient, remote inexpensive and accurate simultaneous detection of multiple analytes. It entails extremely low development costs. Other advantages over competing technologies are:
Simultaneous multi-a e detection.
Excellent response reproducibility and long-term stability.
Rapid formation of sensor elements (1second/sensor).
Individual sensor elements, selective for a given target analyte can be fabricated into the array; the ation method allows several types of sensing chemistry (chemical, biochemical) and detection of a wide range of analytes. Sensor arrays that discriminate between and accurately detect different analytes in a mixed environment are increasingly imp
