Rapid Colored Prototypes (RCP)

A rapid colored prototype (RCP) process is a rapid process of producing colored three-dimensional objects. This method is a marked improvement over the colorless traditional rapid prototyping techniques. Adding functional color into rapid prototype s benefits the user by increasing visualization, understanding and communication of a computer model such as complex CAD models and mechanical and scientific data. It accomplishes this feat by alllowing the user to physically manipulate, feel and se e an object that only exists in a virtual environment. Some of the possible advantages and applications of 3D colored prototypes made using this technology are:

Accurate representations of stress contours in a part of a machine or an archite ral structure Prototyping of machinery with complex sub-assemblies such as an engine or a turbine * Construction of models of parts of a human body (head, visceral parts, etc.) with accuracy and easy viewing of insides; this has considerable potential applications in Medicine, Forensic Science and Criminology Modeling of time dependent systems that can exhibit changes in parameters such as relative positions, relat ive sizes, velocities, etc. in a dynamic environment Better communication with audiences in the professions of research, teaching, etc. Competitive advantage; A study by Hewlett Packard comparing color documents versus black and white document has established that, 1) Color sells ideas and products more effectively by 50% to 80%
2) Color accelerates learning, retention and recall by 55% to 78%
