Computer Assisted Method for Conducting Library Research from a Remote Locat

This invention is of great potential significance to the library, publishing, archives, and records management communities, among others. It addresses a long-felt need, namely, for improved access to materials (often existent in large quantity) which have not been digitized and, through limitations of space, have been moved offsite. This invention offers immediate access and viewing from one location of printed materials which have been stored at a second location. A person at the first location (Location A), through a single flow-through process, is able to identify printed (paper- and non-paper-based) material which exists in non-digitized form at a remote site (Location B), to view at Location A the material via a digital imaging system at Location B, and to print hard copies of desired pages at Location A. A particularly attractive feature of this system and enabling apparatus is the ability to select only portions of the printed item for remote viewing. In short, this invention helps to overcome the inconvenience of offsite storage of printed books, journals, reports, and other documents by eliminating time delays and format barriers to their access and utilization.
