Isolation of GRIP
The invention concerns the discovery of a novel family of proteins named as glutamate receptor interacting proteins (GRIPs). GRIPs interact with non-NMDA glutamate receptors and, in particular, interact selectively with the C-termini of AMPA glutamate receptors. A novel gene that encodes GRIP has been isolated and equenced. GRIPs appear to be involved in the targeting of membrane proteins that may have a critical role in neurotransmitter receptor functions, such as the formation and maintenance of excitatory synapses.
