A Chitosan-DNA Mucosal Vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection

A gene expression vaccine (GXV) comprising of a cocktail of pDNAs encoding nine immunogenic antigens was developed in the form of chitosan-DNA nanospheres. This GXV was tested in a BALB/c model of RSV infection. Results demonstrate that an intranasal GXV is safe and effective against RSV and significantly attenuates pulmonary inflammation induced by RSV infection.
