A current hypothesis is that sequences conserved over greater evolutionary distances are more likely to be functional than sequences that are less well conserved. In order to identify non-coding regulatory sequences, scientists at JHU developed a novel reporter vector based on the Tol2 transposon, and permitting reporter gene expression from a minimal promoter. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) This invention will facilitate identification of important functional elements in the DNA sequence, and will allow for the discovery and evaluation of disease-causing mutations in genomic regions previously thought to contain non-coding, non-functional DNA.
