A Biotin-labeled Antibody for the Pre-clinical Diagnosis of Alzheimer?s Disease

Abstract (Set) Amyloid beta (A?is the main constituent of amyloid plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's disease patients. Research to determine the dynamic equilibrium of A?n the brain and blood is essential to understanding the pathogenesis of Alzheimer?s disease. Previous studies have shown that administration of monoclonal A?ntibody induces a rapid accumulation of A?eptide in the blood and an improvement in cognitive function. Scientists at JHU have now discovered that an injection of biotin-labeled A?ntibody, bio-IB3, will effect an efflux of A?rom brain to the blood only in those mice where Alzheimer-like pathology will develop. Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) The biotin tag on the A?ntibody may allow researchers and clinicians to maximize detection of A?and may work as a tool to diagnose pre-clinical stages of Alzheimer's Disease.
