Bioreactor (Cartridge) for in vitro Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic System

Abstract (Set) JHU scientists have developed a special bioreactor (cartridge) that permits growth of protozoan parasites for studies on the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PKJPD) relationships of existing drugs and of new agents in development. The unit may be modified by changing the nature of the semi-permeable barrier, by adding extra ports for modulating the environment within the cartridge and may be miniaturized in size to reduce reagent requirement and permit the entire system to be run in special environments Description (Set) Proposed Use (Set) This invention can be used to determine go/no go decisions on experimental drugs or biologics; to determine the appropriate dosing regimens for animal and human studies of new agents; to improve dosing regimens for existing drugs; and to provide insight into temporal requirements for efficacy.
