Retractable Visual Indicator Assembly (MSC-22525)

Abstract:
The indicator assembly is attached to the top of the drum or vessel containing filter material. The assembly includes an elongated, outer housing (a tube), constructed at least partially of a transparent material, which provides a "window" for inspection. A wire-screen basket holds granules of indicator material, which are exposed to the filter in a container. During normal operations the basket remains lowered, exposed in the drum containing filter material. For inspection, an operator manipulates a movable device to raise the basket in order to visually inspect the granule indicator material through the "window". The indicator material turns black when exposed to organic gases, signifying that the filter material has become saturated. The invention, using different indicator materials, may be used to detect the presence of different gases within barrels or vessels.
