The TeleWatch Patient Monitoring System

The Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Division of Cardiology and The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory have developed medical procedures and associated telehealth system capabilities for the home monitoring and disease management of high risk outpatients suffering from congestive heart failure. Effective management of congestive heart failure (CHF) is one of the most important challenges and opportunities confronting our health care delivery system. Despite landmark basic and clinical research advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of CHF, the majority of patients are not receiving or applying optimal pharmacologic therapy or dietary and physical activity regimens.

The Home Link System provides for communication and data recording of patient information, such as information for monitoring and managing congestive heart failure (CHF). We believe that this monitoring and feedback system designed for heart failure patients will significantly improve our ability to educate, encourage, inform, and thus empower CHF patients to take greater initiative and exercise greater personal control over their health.
