Single Leg Cycle Ergometer or Bike for Increased Exercise Intensity

Cycle ergometers are referred to as "ergometers", "stationary bicycles", or simply "bikes". This technology is a device that allows single leg cycling to be performed with metabolic cost and biomechanics that are similar to those associated with normal bilateral cycling. This device features a counterweighted crank system that allows leg flexion similar to that during normal cycling.

Benefits
Two main applications of this technology are:
1) Rehabilitation exercise particularly for congestive heart failure, vascular, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, and
2) Endurance training.
The features of this ergometer make it very valuable to patients with congestive heart failure and those awaiting heart transplants increasing their chances of survival significantly.

Stage of Development
A provisional patent application has been filed for this technology. It is available for developmental research support/licensing under either exclusive or non-exclusive terms.
