Digital Watermarking

These 2 applications include a new and improved watermarking system and method for use with video and audio. The system and method can be applied directly to compressed media data/ frames with variable lengths (as opposed to a common fixed length) which (1)tremendously reduces the amount data needed to be processed and (2) increases the degree of difficulty for tampering without being detected.

The system and method generates a novel digital signature for each compressed frame based upon the current compressed frame and the previously generated signature. The novel digital signature is correlated with the previously generated signature in a process in which the compressed frame and the novel digital signature involved in the novel digital signature generation process are determined through a frame correlation vector and a signature correlation vector, respectively. (3) This makes the piracy of the original media contents extremely difficult and the detection of the piracy very easy to implement, for if any frame has been modified, all the signatures corresponding to that frame and beyond will be inconsistent with the original frame being copied.

Primary application: This watermarking technique/system can be applied to any continuous digital media such as video and audio.
Advantages: Please see 1), 2) and 3) in the description above.

Abstract One

A correlation-based system for watermarking continuous digital media at the system application level. It is a post-compression process for watermarking where no a priori knowledge of the underlying compression algorithm is required. Per each compressed media frame, a current unique digital signature is generated based on the data from the current compressed frame plus the digital signature that has been previously generated. The signature thus generated is then used in conjunction with the next compressed frame to generate the next unique digital signature. All digital signatures are correlated according to the above process until a reset signal is issued. A new chain of correlated digital signatures is produced by the system with a pre-determined initial signature.

Abstract Two

A two level cross-correlation based system for watermarking continuous digital media at the system application level.
