AbioScope Tests for Allergies in Minutes

Oct-23-17 The AbioScope can test for allergies at home in less than five minutes.

Recently approved by the FDA, the “world’s most rapid” allergy test was developed by a team from EPFL, which in turn created the spinoff Abionic. The AbioScope test works by combining the blood sample with a reagent and then placing the drop in a disposable test capsule on the scope’s plate. Here, the blood reacts with the biosensors on the capsules to form molecular complexes that can be detected by an integrated laser, with the total assay time taking only eight minutes.
