DeformWear Smaller, Squishy Sensors

DeformWear Smaller, Squishy Sensors
Oct-25-17
The DeformWear system could see us controlling our smartwatches with squishy sensors.

Developed by the team at Saarland University, the pea-sized DeformWear sensor features a half-sphere embedded with an infrared LED and four photodiodes. Squeezing the sensor will alter the way the light is reflected, which in turn is detected by the diodes and translated into a command.

The DeformWear sensor has already been integrated into a ring, pendant and bracelet, and used to control a smartwatch, VR goggles and a television.
