Dissolving Fabric Offers Fast HIV Protection

Dissolving Fabric Offers Fast HIV Protection
Aug-16-14
A new dissolving fabric able to release medication when it comes in contact with moisture could provide women with a new form of HIV protection.

The result of research into electrospinning done by a team at the University of Washington in back in 2012, the electrospun fabric has been embedded with the powerful antiretroviral drug maraviroc, When the material comes contact with moisture, it will quickly dissolve to release the medication. Not only can the electrospun material carry a large amount of medicine, it is also easier to use and works more quickly than other anti-HIV microbicides that are in development.
