An electronic tattoo able to display vitals in real time could have applications in home health care.
Developed by a team at the University of Tokyo, the e-skin features an array of LEDs and a sensor made of a stretchable nanomesh electrode. As the sensor detects vital signs, such as heart rate, the data is displayed on the device as well as transmitted wirelessly to a paired device, such as a smartphone. According to the team, the tattoo is much more flexible and durable than earlier examples of e-skins, and the display can stretch up to 45 percent of its original size without damage.
