The Eye Stick ultrasonic-equipped cane concept for the visually impaired takes the traditional mobility cane a step further in to the future.
The Red Dot Award design concept winner, the Eye Stick is shorter than the usual cane—relying instead upon projected light to prevent collisions with moving people and ultrasonic waves to detect obstacles, such as changes in floor level, in advance. Information about the environment is transmitted through vibrations and audible signals.
The Eye Stick also contains a camera that can be used to scan a product’s bar code, read text or identify money, transmitting the information via Bluetooth and converting it to voice.
