The Radius Pipe Bending bike racks deter bike theft with the help of a floppy, steel cable.
As bicycle locks become more resilient, some thieves choose to saw through the bike rack itself to sidestep the lock. To help deter these saw-wielding bike thieves, the new racks, currently being installed in Portland, Oregon, are outfitted with a floppy, steel wire cable running through the otherwise-normal looking bike rack frame. The loose wire is very hard to cut through, because it will move and prevent the blade from getting purchase. A bar near the bottom of the rack also provides added protection by preventing a U-lock from being slipped off the bottom, even if the rack itself is unbolted from the pavement.
