By identifying cancer cells as it cuts through tissue, the Intelligent Knife (iKnife) makes it easier for doctors to be sure that the complete tumor has been removed,

The knife, developed by Dr. Zoltan Takats of the Imperial College London, is based on electrosurgery, cutting through tissue with an electrical current. As it cuts, the heat from the knife vaporizes tissue and creates smoke. With the realization that this smoke contains important biological information, Dr. Takats connected the knife to a mass spectrometer, which is able to detect the difference between the smoke of cancerous tissue and that of healthy tissue.

When tested on 91 patients, the knife was able to accurately detect what type of tissue was being cut and whether or not it was cancerous.

Whether it can be used to detect cancer tissues in oral cavity? Whether the spread can be judged? Biopsy results can be printed? The questions are related to develop the data for research kindly provide the answers if possible and the price of the gadget to be sent to Pune, Maharastra State,India.

Is this system able to distinguish cancerous tissue especially in surgery of primary unknown metastases? Or which is a type of cancer be detected?

Is escalates costs will be reasonable for the patient?

Yes, this is a helpful tool that many surgeons dreamed.

It can seriously reduce mortality in cancer treatment and post-treatment costs but more extensive studies are needed.
