Lab-Grown Leather

Lab-Grown Leather
Sep-24-12
The founder of PayPal has backed a project with the goal of creating lab-grown leather within five years.

The company, called Modern Meadow, will focus on growing leather in a similar process to lab-grown meat but with much less regulatory restrictions. Harvested cells of livestock animals would be genetically modified to improve the leather qualities, multiplied in a bioreactor, and then purified and fused together. As a final step, the cells would be allowed to mature in order to stimulate the collagen production of leather cells.

Wasn't it called "Corfam?" But seriously, it is hard to compete with a "by-product." You are always the swing producer unless you are better or really a good price--or both.
