Created by tent manufacturer Brooks Range, the Tension Tent uses only a single central pole and two smaller poles, eliminating the complex X and Y pole system. The two smaller cross poles and corner stakes hold the longer sides of the tent in place, and the design is said to stable enough to withstand heavy winds and rain.

The Tension Tent was designed primarily to save weight, with a two-person tent weighing in at 2-lb 11-oz and the three-person tent at just over 3 lb.
