Magnetic Refrigeration

Magnetic Refrigeration
Jul-05-10
Your future fridge may keep food cold by using a magnet. It would use less power, run quieter, and wouldn't contain harmful hydrofluorocarbons.

The magnetocaloric effect uses the phenomena whereby a changing magnetic field within a material causes it to get colder.

The trick, according to Sujoy Roy, a physicist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, is to find an alloy that exhibits the effect at room temperature.

Try mineral or metal products infused into silicone which can retain a high amount of heat. Then use thermal dynamics to reverse the heat to cold.
