Measles Vaccination Patch Could Promote World-Wide Vaccinations

Measles Vaccination Patch Could Promote World-Wide Vaccinations
May-03-15
Researchers have developed a painless and easy-to-use measles vaccination patch that could help encourage vaccinations around the world.

Many people around the world are not vaccinated for measles not of out of choice, but because of lack of trained professionals to deliver the vaccination. In order to make the vaccine accessible to everyone, a team from Georgia Tech and the CDC has developed a vaccination patch featuring 100 cone-shaped microneedles made up of a polymer, sugar and the vaccine. The tiny needles pierce the skin painlessly and then dissolve to release the vaccine within minutes, and the patch can be applied by untrained workers.
