Nanoneedle Patch Delivers Drugs Directly

Nov-14-18
A flexible nanoneedle skin patch able to inject drugs into cells could offer a new method of treating skin conditions.

Developed by a team from Purdue University and Hanyang University, the flexible nanoneedles are an improvement over the stiffer, silicon versions that can be painful and lose effectiveness over time. In contrast, the nanoneedle skin patch is both transparent and flexible, allowing the tissue beneath to be monitored while the patch is in place. The nanoneedle patch can also be placed between muscles and inside tissues for long-term treatment, delivering its cargo of biomolecules with minimal invasiveness.
