Nanoparticle Sunblock Offers a Safer Alternative

Nanoparticle Sunblock Offers a Safer Alternative
Sep-28-15
Researchers at Yale have created a nanoparticle-based sunblock that blocks the sun’s rays without being absorbed into the skin.

The new sunblock is made up of bioadhesive nanoparticles that will stay on the skin, even in water. The particles are large enough to remain on the surface of the skin, and adhesive enough to prevent them from entering the relatively open hair follicles. In tests, the nanoparticle sunscreen performed as well as standard sunscreens, and required much less of the active, sun-blocking chemicals.
