New Chip Could Treat Hair Loss

Feb-08-18 An oxygen-permeable silicon chip could offer a new treatment for baldness and hair loss.

One of the obstacles involved in regenerating hair follicles is reproducing the hair follicle germs (HGSs) on a large scale. To that end, the team from Yokohama National University in Japan developed specialized vessels they then used to create an oxygen-permeable microwell array chip. The unique chip was able to grow up to 5000 HFGs at the same time, opening the door to mass production of HGFs that could be used to treat hair loss.
