No-Touch Robotics Grippers Offer Contact-Free Manipulation

No-Touch Robotics Grippers Offer Contact-Free Manipulation
Jan-21-20
The No-Touch Robotics grippers can manipulate tiny and delicate objects without touching them, eliminating the risk of damage and contamination.

The No-Touch Robotics technology developed by Marcel Schuck takes advantage of acoustic levitation, in which ultrasound waves generate an invisible pressure field that can trap and hold small objects. The prototype device created by Shuck features a pair of 3D-printed semi-spheres embedded with tiny speakers, which can be controlled to vary the pressure points and manipulate the suspended object.

The No-Touch Robotics technology is still a work in progress, and could have particular uses in the micro-assembly and semiconductor industries.
