An innovative paper fingerprint technology could offer an affordable way to prevent forgery.
The technique, from a team at Newcastle University, is based on the idea that each piece of paper has a ‘fingerprint’ created by its woven texture of wood particles. To check the authenticity of a piece of paper, the user snaps a photo of a specific backlit area of the paper with their smartphone, and then compares that image to one on file accessed by a QR code—also printed on the paper. If the paper is the original version, the two unique wood patterns will match, like a fingerprint.
Don’t especially textiles have ‘fingerprints’ or ‘DNA’? Consumers could recognize various materials and branded clothes. Posted by Uolevi Kattun on May 29, 2017
