An innovative regenerative dressing from the team at KTU could help treat deep and chronic wounds.
The dressing was created using freeze-drying to cause hyaluronic acid to develop a sponge-like structure. Once the material is placed in the wound, it will expand to fill the area and provide a surface for cells to attach, helping the wound heal. The material also offers antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory qualities.
The dressing is currently in the proof-of-concept phase, and is being tested with different cells in vitro.
