RFID Tag Monitors Vitals from a Distance

RFID Tag Monitors Vitals from a Distance
Dec-01-17
A new RFID tag able to monitor vitals without body contact could be placed in a pocket to make any clothing smart.

Developed by a team from Cornell University, the RFID tag relies on radio waves and near-field coherent sensing to accurately detect vital signs such as heart rate and breathing. The monitoring device can work from a distance of up to 10 centimeters from the body, transmitting the data to a reader up to two meters away.

According to the developers, the tags can be used to monitor many individuals at one time, and could open the door to more clothing with integrated health monitors.
