Rotor Sail Solution Adds Wind Power to Ship Engines

Jun-04-15 The Rotor Sail Solution offers an energy-saving option for long-distance ships by letting the wind do some of the work.

Created by the Finnish company Norsepower, the Rotor Sail is an evolution of the Flettner rotor. The tall, cylindrical structure alters the wind’s path around it to create a pressure difference that causes a lift force. This lift force can be harnessed during times of enough wind to help augment the engines, reducing pollution and saving fuel.
