Samsung's See-Through Safety Truck System

Samsung's See-Through Safety Truck System
Jun-23-15
The prototype “Safety Truck System” makes big-rig trucks transparent, allowing vehicles behind them to know when it is safe to pass.

Created by Samsung, the system consists of a camera mounted on the front of the truck that captures a video of the road ahead. That information is sent in real-time to four exterior monitors on the rear of the truck, offering the vehicles following the truck a better view of the road ahead—and when it is safe to pass.

The prototype was successfully tested in Argentina, and Samsung plans to carry out more tests to make the system compliant with road authorities and standard regulations.

Interesting but like a lot of safety items if it costs money and adds maintenance costs unless its made mandatory it will take a long time before this happens. How much weight does this add to the truck electronics are not heavy like other safety items but still a factor ( payload carring capacity is effected)
NOTE: Cameras to eliminate blind spots for the truck driver are still not commonly used. Heated mirrors are not required to be functional, Lots of other safety items available but most often not utilized.
