SatSleeve Takes Satellite Calls

SatSleeve Takes Satellite Calls
Mar-24-13
The SatSleeve turns an iPhone into a satellite phone capable of taking calls in remote zones not covered by terrestrial networks.

Developed by Thuraya, the SatSleeve features a battery pack that extends cellphone life, an emergency call button that will dial a pre-programmed number and an integrated microphone and speaker. The device accesses Thuraya’a satellite network to allow SMS and phone calls in 140 different countries, over the ocean, and even in the Outback.

Although many of Thuraya’s services are aimed at the military, energy and aviation sectors, the SatSleeve could be useful to backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts who venture deep into areas beyond the reach of typical cell phones.
